Birmingham Discovery Trail
The Birmingham Discovery Trail continues to be very popular with schools and colleges throughout Birmingham Participating. The Birmingham Trail is designed to help you see the city in a new way and the questions relate to the professions and businesses, that although diverse, are all aspects of the leisure, tourism, travel & hospitality industry. The trail will help you discover more about these professions, giving you an insight into the jobs and careers that are involved in the different sectors of this industry, whilst bringing the history of the city to life. Solihull Trail
The new Solihull Discovery Trail was officially launched in April 2003 with support from SCHEF (Solihull Caterers and Hospitality Employers Forum) and hosted by the Renaissance Hotel Solihull. The trail has continued to promote the exciting careers and opportunities within in the new multi-million pound Touchwood development housing great shops, bars and restaurants and sited near fabulous hotels and leisure options.
Birmingham & Solihull Connexions
Springboard West Midlands will be supporting Birmingham & Solihull Connexions throughout the 2003/2004 academic year with a series of events in schools in the West Midlands. These include Industry Days, World of Work Days and Careers Conventions.
Springboard & LSC Programme of Events
Springboard West Midlands is currently looking to recruit 150 students to take part in 5 activities that will show that variety of careers available in the HLTT industries and develop the skills necessary to persue a career in this vibrant industry.
The students will be expected to attend all five events which include an introduction to the HLTT industry, The Birmingham Discovery Trail, a Taster and Challenge, What’s in a Job Industry Day and The Food Handlers Certificate. Springboard West Midlands will begin delivering this programme in September2004 and it will finish in December 2004.

Summer School
This is the first year that Springboard West Midlands is running this exciting programme, which is part of Springboard UK’s national Programmes. Twenty-five students will have the opportunity to gain 3 industry specific qualifications: Food Handlers, Welcome Host and the Health & Safety, as well as vital work experience for two weeks.
The Summer School Programme is aimed at students in years 11 and 12 and the lucky twenty-five students will be selected from schools/ colleges in the Birmingham and Solihull area. The programme kicks off on 14th May 2004 at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole. The pupils will be able to participate in a variety of competitions, interactive events, speak to industry representatives and have the opportunity to be selected for placements available on the Summer School Programme.
